Top 5 “To Do” While You’re In Anzio

When you go to Italy, chances are you want to see as many cities and landmarks as you possibly can in the short amount of time you have. The trick is to travel to cities that are close enough to each other and have the atmosphere you are looking for.

Anzio, Italy is about an 1 hour train ride from the central station in Rome. During the month of August, it’s a more quiet, family oriented beach town. The cuisine is truly mouth watering and the Roman Grottos are epic! You can even ride the ferry for a day trip to one of the nearby islands.

If you do decide to venture to this quaint little beach town, here are the top 5 things you have to do.

Number 1: Eat at Ristorante Turcotto

Ristorante Turcotto is by far the best restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. The food was so fresh and light. My husband and I literally ate there 3 times in a matter of 6 nights.

Number 2: Walk around the center of town at night.

Anzio is full of little surprises and random events such as live music, fashion shows, entertainment for children, and outdoor movies.

  • Live music at Bar L’Orchidea – 12 Via Alfredo Baccarini on a Saturday Night

Number 3: Walk to the Grottos and snap a photo.

Anzio is full of beautiful caves called “Grottos” created by the Romans.

Number 4: Take a day trip to a nearby island.

Just a two hour boat ride from the Anzio Port, you can find the beautiful island of Ponza. It’s located in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is filled with natural swimming pools. To get from one side of the island to the other, you need to rent a car or take the bus. I recommend taking the bus because the roads are ultra narrow.

Number 5: Just relax!

You are finally on vacation. You don’t need to stress about what to do in a town like Anzio. Anzio is perfect to just wake up, go for a dip, and venture into the town. All I did was eat, swim, sleep, and repeat.
